There I Was...When Nothing Happened

Created by Jason Brick

A book collecting true tales of violence prevention from professionals in the field. This won't be the sexiest book on self-defense you've ever read, but it might be the most important.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Closing down May
over 2 years ago – Sat, May 28, 2022 at 04:43:18 PM

Hi Everybody!

It's been a push since I recovered, and we are back on track! I have rough drafts of all but four of the stories, and am expecting copy on those by the end of the month.

Meanwhile,  the cover is ready except for adjusting dimensions to suit final page count.

We are on schedule to print in July and deliver in August.

Next month's activities will be sending penultimate drafts to the various contributors for their approvals and alterations, with the final ones turned in by EOM.

Thank you for all your support on the project. I am so thrilled with how this is turning out.

One last thing. The book tour is in progress, with locations in the following cities:

  • Portland, Oregon
  • Poulsbo, Washington
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Boise, Idaho
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Tucson, Arizona

I'm also talking to folks in Roseburg, Fort Collins, Walla Walla, Vancouver BC, Boston, and Toronto. If you'd like me to come to a city near you, reach out and we'll see what we can put together.

Current Project Status

Hi everybody!

Thanks for your patience during the hiatus. As promised, here's your weekly report.

At present, of the 50 stories:

  • 23 are in second-to-last draft stage
  • 21 are in rough draft stage
  • 6 are still waiting on people to turn them in, but I'm riding those 6 and they've promised they'll get them to me by end of next week

The biggest issue at present is that rough draft group. I should have been at 10 or so by now, but I'm setting aside time next week to get that number down to zero. Then we'll be back on track.

The other aspects are moving along nicely.

Thank you everybody for supporting the book. This is onna be really good.

Lost Me For a Minute There

Hi Everybody!

It's been a couple weeks since my last update. Covid caught me, and I spent a week in bed followed by several days of being unable to put more than an hour's worth of concentration into anything at a given time.

I'm back on the case as of this week, and will be doubling down my efforts to catch up by the end of the month. Books should still ship on schedule.

Expect a more detailed update on Friday.

Thanks for supporting There I Was....

Progress Continues!

Not much interesting to report this week. I've been plugging along. The cover is basically ready. Waiting on final page count before it can be finished, and we'll have something to reveal ere to long.

For the meat of the book, we've got 29 of the tales now in rough draft form. We're well on the way to publication in July, for shipping in August.

This one's short and sweet. Nothing's gone wrong yet. :-)

Progress Report
over 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 08, 2022 at 06:27:06 PM

Hi everybody!

As I can, I'll fill you in on the progress of the book each week. As you know, this month's activities are all about collating and formatting the rough draft, and initial work for the cover. Here's what's happening:

  • Cover: i was going to do a contest of cover concepts, but everybody seems to love the placeholder cover. So we're keeping that, and I have selected a designer to use the idea to make the cover awesome, and to produce one to the dimensions the final draft will require
  • Draft: Out of the 50 essays that we'll include in the book...6 are in full rough draft form, 23 are in a cohesive form to turn into a rough draft, 13 are in notes or raw interview form, and 8 are waiting to be collected. We're well on track for a strong finish by month's end.

That's all the news that's fit to print, folks. :-)

Thank again for all your support. Tune in next week for something truly spiffy.
