There I Was...When Nothing Happened

Created by Jason Brick

A book collecting true tales of violence prevention from professionals in the field. This won't be the sexiest book on self-defense you've ever read, but it might be the most important.

Smoke Test is Live
about 2 years ago – Fri, Sep 09, 2022 at 02:45:21 PM

Hi everybody!

If you're not familiar with how Backerkit (a third-party service that helps with fulfilling Kickstarter campaigns) works, the step after getting all ducks in a row is a  "Smoke Test", where they contact 5% of backers to check and make sure everything's working.

That 5% is random, so I can't control and don't know who it is.

If it's you, please go ahead and reply as quickly as you can.

If it's not, stay tuned. I'll either put the rest out on Friday, or on Monday (so nobody has to check their emails over the weekend).

This is getting super-exciting! Thanks once again for all the support.

We are moving forward!!!

Hi Everybody!

I'm back from vacation and expecting the first shipment of books any day now. Meanwhile, be on the lookout for a note from Backerkit. They'll ask you to confirm shipping details, manage postage, and all that good stuff.

I'm working with them today, cleaning up a couple loose ends that I only found out about while abroad and unable to fix them.  I will post updates each time something moves forward with them.

We are so close to holding the book in our hands, people! Thank you for your support and patience. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all!

That's a Wrap!

Hi everybody!

Thank you all again for your support and patience as the nitty gritty of the project...um...ground.

I just sent the files to the publisher. I leave for my trip tomorrow, and should come home to a proof copy for my final review. Unless there's something terribly wrong with it (there should not be, given how fine-toothed a comb I went through the electronic proofs), we'll start shipping the first week of September.

Thank you all again!

Be on the lookout for a Backerkit survey they should start going out in the next week or so.

We're closing in...
about 2 years ago – Sat, Aug 13, 2022 at 06:24:15 AM

Hi everybody. I have a little bad news, but it's not that bad.

It's not that the final edits are taking longer and putting me behind schedule. It's not that the combined responsibilities of being a dad in the summer are putting me behind schedule. However, the two of them are adding up, and combining with a two-week family vacation in the end of August, to wreck my desired timeline.

At this point, I don't think I will be at home when the print books arrive. They will most likely show up while I'm away.

Which puts delivery in early September. I appreciate everybody's patience, and you have my apologies. I will include a small gift with each order as an attempt to make it up to you.

Meanwhile, the book is turning out GREAT. Early reviews of advance copies are stellar, and I'm super-happy with how everything coming together.

Thanks again, all!

Jason

Sorry for the radio silence there...
about 2 years ago – Fri, Jul 22, 2022 at 01:11:00 PM

Summer's been full of dadding and such, but I've been chugging away on the book. We're mostly on schedule.

As of right now, we have all but two of the stories in and moving through editorial, with time scheduled to collect those last two.

Of those in editorial, 17 are already fully edited and moving to layout.

The cover design is just waiting on a final page count so we know the spine dimensions, and the designer is hassling me in her eagerness.

All in all, we're still on schedule, though it looks like we'll ship in late August rather than early August at this point.
